Tickets

Competition entry fees are as follows; 
£45 for one class entry, and a discounted rate of £80 for two class entries by the same competitor.
Competitors do not require to purchase an entry ticket for The Dog Lovers Show. Wristbands will be allocated on arrival at the stewards table at the Glasgow Dog Grooming Academy stall.

Grooming Tables Provided

Tables will be provided, please bring table height raisers such as elephant feet if required.  All competitors must provide their own equipment. 
Electricity will not be available. All equipment must be in full working order. Any equipment found to be in violation of this will not be permitted to be used.
All tables can be purchased at a discounted price following the show.

Class Definition

Newbie
A newbie should not have more than 6 months of full time experience. No breed specialists allowed.

Beginner
A beginner should not have more than 1 year of full time experience. No breed specialists allowed.

Intermediate
An intermediate should have between 1 and 3 years of fulltime experience. No breed specialists allowed.

Veteran
A veteran should have no less than 7 years of full time experience and have never competed in a grooming competition before. No breed specialists allowed.

Open
Open is for anyone with less than 3 firsts, or 2 firsts and a best in show within any set class. Breed specialist should enter this class.

Champion
Champion is open to anyone.

*Competitors with more than 3 years, but less than 7 years full time experience should enter an open class*

Class Categories

For all classes there will be 15 minutes allocated for the competitor to prepare their dog, followed by 30 minutes of pre-judging.  These timings begin at the start times allocated below. 

Newbie

Any breed (including cross breeds) can be used to enter. All styling/stripping techniques may be used within this class. Colours are NOT permitted.

Asian Freestyle

Any breed (including cross breed) can be used to enter. These must be groomed in an Asian influenced style. Colours or pre colours are NOT permitted due to the kennel club regulations. Accessories are permitted but should be kept to a minimum. Clippers and comb attachments are permitted.

Dogs under 17 inches – Allocated 1 hour 45 minutes.
Dogs over 17 inches – Allocated 2 hours.

Salon Freestyle Open and Champion

Any breed (including cross breeds) can be used to enter. All styling/stripping techniques may be used within this class. Colours are NOT permitted.
Saturday - 12:10PM Prompt
Dogs under 17 inches – Allocated 2 hour 30 minutes.
Dogs over 17 inches – Allocated 2 hours.
This category is not eligible for best in show.

Creative Model Dogs

Model dogs to be groomed in real time within the competition ring. Any styling technique can be used. The use of colour, stencilling, carving, and accessories are permitted.

Hand Strip Open and Champion

This category is eligible for best in show.
Terriers and other wire coated breeds. These must be groomed to the recognised breed standard trims. Stripping knifes, chalks and sprays are permitted. Clippers are only permitted if required for the dog specific breed standard trim. Colour is NOT permitted.
Sunday - 12:10PM Prompt
Dogs under 17 inches – Allocated 2 hours 30 minutes.
Dogs over 17 inches – Allocated 3 hours.

Spaniel & Setters Open and Champion

This category is eligible for best in show.
Spaniel and setter pure breeds only. These must be hand stripped and groomed to the recognised breed standard trim. Stripping knives, chalk and sprays are permitted. Clippers are only permitted if required for a dog specific breed standard trim. Colour is NOT permitted.

Dogs over 17 inches – Allocated 3 hours.

Pure Breed Scissor Open and Champion

This category is eligible for best in show.
Pure breed only. For example, Bichon Frise, Bedlington Terrier, Kerry Blue. These must be groomed to the correct recognised breed standard trim. Clippers or comb attachments are NOT permitted. Colours are NOT permitted.
Sunday - 8:15AM Prompt
Any breed / Any size
Dogs under 17 inches – Allocated 2 hours.
Dogs over 17 inches – Allocated 2 hours 30 minutes.
Judges:

Poodle Open and Champion

This category is eligible for best in show.
Pure breed poodle must be groomed in a recognised breed standard style, this includes the Dutch trim. Clippers or comb attachments are NOT permitted. Feet and muzzle should be shaved before the start of the competition. Poodles with spray up top knots can have an assistant to hold the dog when spraying top knot. Colours are NOT permitted.
Sunday - 12:10PM Prompt
Dogs under 17 inches – Allocated 2 hours.
Dogs over 17 inches – Allocated 2 Hours 30 minutes.
Poodles with a spray up top knot – allocated extra 15 minutes.
Judges:

Classes

A first, second and third place will be awarded for every class. Only Pure Breed Scissor Open & Champ, Setter & Spaniel Open & Champ, Hand Strip Open & Champ, and Poodle Open & Champ are eligible for best in show. Each category will have 2 judges. 

Coat & Product Rules

  1. All contestants must provide their own dog(s)
  2. All dogs must have a minimum of 8 weeks growth on coat.
  3. There should be no visible patterns or pattern lines. There must be enough coat for the competitor to make a difference in the dog’s appearance. Competitors competing with dogs who have clear pattern lines, or an inappropriate coat growth may be marked down or disqualified.
  4. Only grooming techniques pertinent to the class are allowed. They must be appropriate to the dog’s coat and grooming requirements.
  5. All products used must be dog safe, if any competitor is found to be using unsafe products, this will result in disqualification.
  6. There will be a 10-minute comfort break for all dogs after one hour during all sessions.
  7. All aspects of The Animal Welfare Act 2006 must be adhered to. 

Preparation Rules

Dogs must be fully prepared before the competition.
  1. Washed
  2. Dried
  3. Knot Free
  4. Pads Cleared
  5. Nails Trimmed
  6. Ears Cleared
  7. Sanitary Cleared
  8. Feet and facial shaving must be done as part of preparation (poodles)
  9. Manikin dogs must be fully brushed out before competition, and in their original colour. 

General Rules

  1. All competitors must check in at the steward desk, located at The Glasgow Dog Grooming Academy stall, adjacent to the competition ring.
  2. Competitors must be in the ring 15 minutes prior to start time for pre-judging with their own dogs and tools.
  3. Competitors are not permitted to talk to any other competitors or audience members during the contest. Any competitors found in violation of this rule, will have one waring from a steward, if there is a second incident this will result in disqualification.
  4. Competitors are not permitted to use any mobile phones or electronic devices during the competition. Any competitors found in violation of this rule, will have one waring from a steward, if there is a second incident this will result in disqualification.
  5. Competitors are not permitted to be ‘rough’ with any dogs. Any competitors found in violation of this rule will be immediately disqualified.
  6. Inappropriate behaviour or language will result in immediate disqualification. 
  7.  If there any minor nicks or clipper burns found, the competitor cannot place within the category. More serious injury will result in the dog being removed from the competition and their injury attended to as required.
  8. All disqualifications are final and will be executed by event management.
  9. Competitors should be mindful of other competitors and ensure there are no trip hazards within the aisles.
  10. Competitors should remove all hair and tools from table after category time has ended, allowing the judges to approach easily for judging.
  11. Competitors should stack their dogs for judging.
  12. A comb should be placed on the table for the judge.
  13. Competitors may comb the dog before and after the judging has taken place.
  14. Any competitors found to be in an inappropriate class will be disqualified (if found after placement, results will be withdrawn).
  15. All complaints must be written and submitted to event management before the event has ended.
